Over fifteen months, fans and press have taken both GTA 6 trailers and the official frames apart shot by shot — the finds number in the dozens. Collected here are the ones that survived verification: seven easter eggs with concrete sources, the gameplay clues and the definitive tech breakdown. Geography lives in a separate locations guide and on the interactive map; the edition bonuses get the Ultimate Edition breakdown.

The gameplay clues

One caveat every serious tracker repeats: appearing in a frame does not confirm a game mechanic. Read with that in mind.

The frames and trailers show over a dozen activities: the gym, boxing, mini-golf, pool, fishing, volleyball, jet skis, diving, nightclubs and mud bogging at the Thrillbilly Mud Club. Jason emptying a store register hints at petty robberies returning. GamingBolt spotted individually animated coins in that scene (May 12, 2025). A metro shows up in several frames. Lucia’s ankle monitor spawned a theory about restricted movement early in the story. It is a guess Rockstar has not commented on.

Vehicles get counted by the dozen (every model shown officially has its own breakdown): autoevolution identified more than 20 models in the trailer, from the Vapid Caracara pickup (a Ford Raptor analog) to the 1972 Declasse Tulip in the closing shot. The weapons tally reached 19, largely thanks to the trailer’s “Phil’s Ammu-Nation” commercial and its “more guns than the law allows” slogan. Wildlife spotters have logged alligators, a Florida panther, deer, spoonbills and sea turtles.

Seven easter eggs with sources

Phil Cassidy, except with both arms

The Ammu-Nation commercial features a man who looks and sounds like Phil Cassidy from Vice City and GTA III. He has both arms; Phil lost one back in 2002. Hence the community readings: his son, his grandson, or a quiet continuity reset (Beebom). The frame gets a full breakdown in the Trailer 2 piece.

The PS5 by the television

In that same frame, a white console with a blue light strip sits under the screen and a DualSense controller lies on the coffee table. Dexerto spotted it and filed it as a nod to the Rockstar-Sony partnership.

The Ocean View hotel

One frame puts Jason across the street from a hotel matching Vice City’s Ocean View (Beebom). In the edition frames there is nothing to guess: the neon spells it out.

Lance Vance’s outfit on Raul

Raul’s white blazer and purple shirt are Lance Vance’s outfit, line for line (Beebom).

Lucia’s shirt

The faded print reads I WENT DOWN ON A LEVIATHAN. The Leviathan is the Del Perro Pier rollercoaster from GTA V, and the line reads both ways (GamingBolt).

Red Dead presidents on the money

The banknotes name Thaddeus Waxman and Franklin Hardin. Both first appeared in Red Dead Redemption 2, and Hardin also turned up on a hundred-dollar bill in GTA Online’s The Contract update (Dexerto). The close-up of the cash is in the first trailer.

Thaw hard seltzer

Thaw is a boozy sparkling water parodying the real White Claw (Beebom). No hunting required: the can is on the official cover art.

What did not hold up

Beebom reported that Pisswasser beer is back in the trailer, now with an alcohol-free “Pißwasser Nein” variant. The frames do not show it: the bottles on the bar table read Patriot Beer, and Pisswasser appears on no sign or label. Until a frame turns up, treat the brand’s return as unconfirmed.

The graphics, as the specialists saw them

The most thorough technical breakdown of Trailer 2 came from Digital Foundry, a studio that has analyzed game graphics frame by frame for years. Their headline finding is simple: the game has no simplified lighting at all. The engine traces every ray of light honestly, which is why reflections show up even in characters’ sunglasses and car windshields, and why hair is built from individual strands that move on their own.

That picture has a price. Digital Foundry estimates the game will run at 30 frames per second on consoles, and a 60 fps mode most likely won’t happen: the lighting eats too much of the hardware. Keep in mind this is an analyst forecast. Rockstar has never named a frame rate — it only confirmed the trailer was captured on a PS5 and is “equal parts gameplay and cutscenes.”

The small stuff impresses just as much. GamingBolt collected 25 details of this kind: muscles tense under Jason’s skin, footprints dent the sand, foam settles in a glass of beer.

What comes next

On August 27, “GTA VI: An Extended Look” premieres, the first long-form showcase of the game. It is expected to show the one thing missing from every official release so far: live gameplay with an interface on screen. Our breakdown will be published here within a day of the premiere.
